Plitvička Jezera is a municipality in central Croatia, in the eastern part of the Lika-Senj county, that lies in and near the eponymous Plitvice Lakes National Park, bisected by the D1 main road.

It is located in the Gorska Hrvatska region, between the Mala Kapela and Licka Pljesivica mountain ranges. Endowed with exceptional beauty, the Plitvice Lakes area has always attracted nature lovers. Established in 1949, it is the first national park in Croatia. The Plitvice Lakes were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
The area of the Plitvice Lakes National Park has been expanded so that today it represents a total area of almost 115 square miles (300 km2). It includes not only the Plitvice Lakes which form a group of 16 large lakes, connected by 92 waterfalls or small tormented rivers, but also the surrounding forest. Which is home to many rare animal and plant species, the best-known representatives being the brown bear and the wolf. The fauna and flora are thriving, as evidenced by the richness of the lakes' fish life.
There are numerous limestone caves dug by the water near the lakes. You can visit the Supljara cave or the Golubnjaca cave, located at the base of the canyon.
The region offers many excursions to discover the rich and green fauna and flora, you will be conquered by so much beauty.
After your visit to the national park, you can visit the underground military airport which is a former abandoned military base with tunnels under the mountain, for fans of history and urban exploration, this visit is for you.
To enjoy the park to the fullest, the ideal season is from May to October, when temperatures are mild and there are not too many tourists.
In order to preserve the Plitvice National Park, swimming is not allowed, but at the Krka waterfalls, you can take a bath in the lower part of the river.
On site, you will find accommodation and food. At entrance 2 of Plitvice there are hotels, but also outside the park. There are some campsites in the area too. Book your accommodation for Plitvice in advance! At port P3, there are restaurants to eat before or after a good day of walking.

And 1.5 hours from Zadar by the E71freeway and the D1 road. There are two entrances to Plitvice National Park, entrance 1 is less frequented than entrance 2.
