Florianópolis, a paradise for surfer

At 700 kilometers from São Paulo and 500 from Porto Alegre, Florianópolis is the second most touristic destination in Brazil after Rio de Janeiro, if we exclude business tourism.
Located on Santa Catarina Island, the city was born in 1675 when the Portuguese decided to settle there, founding the colony of Nossa Senhora do Desterro (Our Lady of Exile)
Then became a city in 1726, receiving a large number of emigrants from the Azores who lived mainly from agriculture (cotton, flax, and manioc) and whaling.

In 1894 the city was named Florianópolis in honor of Floriano Peixoto

He was the second President of the Republic of Brazil. With the arrival of electricity and a water supply system at the beginning of the 20th century, Florianópolis would see its population grow rapidly.
Today, Florianopolis ranks third among Brazilian cities with the highest Human Development Index (HDI) (after São Caetano do Sul and Aguas de São Pedro), which demonstrates the quality of life of its inhabitants and the comfort tourists can expect when staying on Santa Catarina Island.
