On January 1, 2015, Turnhout had a total population of 42,637. The total area is 56.06 km² which gives a population density of 835.5 835.5/km². The agglomeration, however, is much larger, accounting up to 81,473 inhabitants.

Planckendael is a zoo, located on the grounds of Planckendael castle in the village district of Muizen, in Mechelen, Belgium. In 1956 the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp bought the Planckendael estate in order to acquire a larger space for animals than what they owned: the city zoo in Antwerp.
