Travel Tips for visiting Brugge

Brugge is a tourist destination and a medieval city in Belgium that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the ideal place for a romantic, cultural and shopping weekend/city break.
There are very few tourist destinations where everyone agrees. Brugge, in Belgium, is one of those city-states which, thanks to its rich past and its concern for the preservation of its heritage, has succeeded in combining modern life with a rich past.

Often referred to as the Venice of the North for its canals, Brugge reveals its beauty all year round. Here you can relax, walk around and make the most of this enchanting city.

Its artistic collections, its gentle way of life, its romantic aura and its architectural appeal are just some of the assets of the little Venice of the North, the jewel of Flanders and an essential stopover in Northern Europe.
A rich maritime city in the 14th century, the city has preserved a rich and masterful architecture with discreet and elegant finishes from that period.

You can go to the Markt, the heart of Brugges and the square where the Belfry stands, overlooking the city. You can climb the 366 steps to the top of this 83-metre tower and enjoy a panoramic view of Brugge.

Surrounded by restaurants and cafés with beautiful facades, the Markt is a great place to dine and enjoy a strong local beer and, of course, admire the postcard setting. Also good to know: the Belfry is even more beautiful at night, when it is illuminated.

In the morning, in the afternoon or at night, go to the Rosary Quay (Rozenhoedkaai) to take a photo or just stroll around and enjoy the moment. The spot is really pretty. It's almost like being in Venice.

A walk along the canals is a must in Brugge. You'll see places and monuments that you wouldn't have seen otherwise than by boat.

Don't forget to visit the Basilica of the Holy Blood, located on the Grote Markt, with its magnificent interior. The relic of the Holy Blood is said to preserve the blood of Christ and on Ascension Day it is paraded around Brugge in a large procession attended by thousands of people. You only need about ten minutes in the basilica but it is well worth the diversions.

Finally, don't go to Brugge without tasting the delicious waffles.
