🏰 Temple 🏞️ Lake 🏞️ Waterway 🌲 ForestThe capital, largest city and economic, cultural and political center of Bangladesh, Dhaka is one of the 15 largest cities in the world (ranked 13th), a vast agglomeration housing 17 million people. Bangladesh, one of the most densely populated countries in the world, has a population of 160 million in a territory equivalent to a quarter of Metropolitan France (143,998 km²). And it is a country often shunned by tourists, who prefer India, Myanmar and Thailand. Created in the 10th century and capital of Bengal from 1608 to 1704, Dhaka covers 306.38 km² (3 times the size of Paris), and is the capital of the country since the secession from East Pakistan in 1971. The city is located on the left side of the Buriganga River, a branch of the Dhaleswari River. Often described as chaotic and overcrowded, Dhaka is a giant open-air anthill: walking in the streets of the historical center allows you to see the extent of it: traffic jams of rickshaws and tuk-tuks, it's jammed even on foot because there are people absolutely everywhere. If you are agoraphobic, do not visit Dhaka. In the old city, the bazaars are a must: you will find a "merry mess" where small stalls selling clothes, jewelry, fruit and vegetable stalls, bangles and other colorful souvenirs are mixed together. Dhaka is not lacking in attractions, there are many more to discover!
