Yerevan, a thousand-year-old capital

Built-in 782 BC, Yerevan is one of the oldest cities in the world. It was built on the model of a military fortress and founded on the ruins of Erebuni, an ancient Urantia city.
In the early Middle Ages, Yerevan saw the birth of its first monuments.
The city was then a large trading center, important enough to build the first church. Yerevan passed through the hands of the Arabs and Persians before becoming part of Russia in the early 19th century. Each of these passages left behind traces still visible today.
It was not until 1991, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, that Armenia gained its current independence and Yerevan became its official capital.

To the origins of Yerevan at the fortress of Erebuni

Perched on the hill of Arin-Berd at the south-eastern end of Yerevan, the fortress of Erebuni offers a fabulous testimony of the Uralian civilization. Founded by the kings Argishti I and Sarduri II in the 8th century BC, it was only discovered in the middle of the 20th century. The site was completely restored by archaeologists so that it is possible to visit places of worship and other moments perfectly representative of the time, reconstituted in their original stones.
In the heart of the fortress, the palace is undoubtedly the most impressive monument of the site. Surrounded by a vast courtyard and surmounted by a portico with six columns, it displays magnificent polychrome frescoes. But that's not all! Your visit to the fortress of Erebuni will also allow you to admire, in the museum adjacent to the site, beautiful exhibitions of statuettes, totems, and ritual objects restored to perfection!

Yerevan, the cultural capital of Armenia

Yerevan offers a real return to the past. Armenia's largest city, built on seven hills, is home to a host of sumptuous buildings that have been created throughout its history. In its center, there are no less than 2750 fountains that are agitated around a pretty central basin. The Place de la République deserves a good day's visit to see all its monuments.

Built-in the 18th century, it was transformed into a planetarium during the Soviet era (which prohibited religious monuments at the time).
