Taghit is a commune of the Wilaya of Bechar in Algeria, located 57.7 miles (93 km) southeast of Bechar. The region of Taghit revolves around a palm grove more than 12.4 miles (20 km) long. It is located between the Jebel Baroun and the dunes of the Grand Erg Occidental. Taghit is named “the enchantress”, which corresponds so much to this tourist destination, it is fascinating by its old ksar, its huge dunes, its houses in red 'toub', its green palm grove and its millinery rock engravings. Explore the old ksar, which was built on a rocky plateau. It stands on the highest point of the city, with a breathtaking view of the golden dunes of the Grand Erg Occidental and the green palm grove. The thousand-year-old houses in red 'toub' seem to defy the ravages of time, some of them have been restored. To stroll in the palm grove of Taghit, which shelters a rich vegetation and majestic date palms. This palm grove borders the Zouzfana wadi which sinks into the Saoura up to Igli where it merges with oued Guir to form oued Saoura. Walk on the immense dunes of the Grand Erg Occidental and contemplate the sunset. Impossible to make the impasse on these two points. You can rent skis and take off from the top of the giant dune. Adrenalin at the top and strong sensations guaranteed. For the amateurs of quad, the speed in the immensity of the desert will give you a blow of sensations. Otherwise, a camel ride can be a good alternative to discover the region. Taghit is an ancient city full of relics of the past that is worth the detour, an ideal destination for a change of scenery in this beautiful oasis.
