Saranda is an attractive stop on the Albanian Riviera. It is one of the best seaside destinations in Albania. Charming as its waterfront and beaches, the city is also on the road to many popular attractions, including the archaeological site of Butrint classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site less than 20 km south. It is one of the most popular travel destinations in Albania for enjoying the Ionian Sea. Attractions abound in the region, from beaches and lagoons, lakes and rivers, fishing and water sports, plantations and mountains, vineyards and olive groves. 

Saranda has a museum of archaeology in its downtown area. It exhibits various relics and rare pieces that depict the past of the city and the region. It is a place full of history that will undoubtedly please the curious. The castle of Lekures is located on the heights of the city. You can easily reach this eminent building founded in the 16th century by car or scooter, apart from group visits. Less than twenty kilometers to the south, past a beautiful monastery where you can stop if you feel like it, visit the archaeological site of Butrint classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.  

The beaches of Saranda are lively, but no less pleasant, just like the city. Pulebardha is the most frequented spot for swimming and other water sports. The Blue Eye Spring lagoon, located about 30 minutes from the city, offers a magical setting with an iris blue hue, a paradise for photography enthusiasts. The charming village of Ksamil, 15 km from Saranda, also offers a dream setting with its beaches with crystal clear water and open to the public.

Saranda has a warm Mediterranean climate, with an average temperature of 16° C over the year. The recommended period for a stay in the city is from May to September, in reference to the pleasant temperatures that generally oscillate between 20° C and 27° C. July is the sunniest and most popular month. The rest of the year, rainfall can spoil your trip.
