Pogradec is the eleventh most populous city of the Republic of Albania and the capital of the eponymous municipality. It is located on a narrow plain between two mountain chains along the southwestern banks of the Lake of Ohrid.

Pogradec District was one of the 36 districts of Albania, which were dissolved in July 2000 and replaced by 12 newly created counties. It had a population of 70,900 in 2001, and an area of 725 km². It is in the east of the country, and its capital was the city of Pogradec. The area of the former district is coextensive with the present municipality of Pogradec, which is part of Korçë County.

Pogradec is the 11th most populated city in Albania.
In spite of the ravages of the wars that Albania has undergone, notably the Second World War and the Yugoslav Wars, some historical monuments remain available and are worth discovering! Among them, the monastery of Shën Naum built in 905 in the Bulgarian empire of the time by Saint Naum of Ohrid himself.
Not far from there, you can find Lin, a village isolated from the big cities with an archaeological past. Lin is best known for its mosaics and the 5th century Early Christian Basilica on the top of Mount St Athanasius.
Pogradec also offers the opportunity to breathe fresh air by hiking and walking, for example along the peaceful Ohrida Lake with its picturesque views, or on the Mali Thate mountain, where the vegetation consists mainly of alpine meadows, while on the eastern side there are beech, oak and bush forests.
You can also continue your fresh air on a walk through the Driloni National Park. This park is ideal for families with children, with its lush, soothing landscape. Here you can take a boat ride on the lake while watching small families of ducks and other animals swim by.
The park is also steeped in history as it was the second home of the dictator Enver Hoxha.
After a day's excursion, don't forget to stop at an Albanian restaurant where you can taste the traditional Koranic fish from Lake Ohrid.
